Srikakulam: Annapurna Krishi Prasara Seva (AKPS) under Interactive Information Dissemination System (IIDS) will be improvised to serve better to farmers to cultivate appropriate crop and to sow suitable variety to get good yield.

This was explained by principle investigator for IIDS programme and senior research scientist of Media Lab Asia TS Anurag, associate director for Anakapalli regional agriculture research station K Veerabhadra Rao, deputy director of Aacharya NG Ranga Agriculture university (ANGRAU), P Punna Rao and Krishi vignana kendram (KVK) of Amudalavalasa and senior scientist D Chinnamnaidu.

They conducted discussion on possibilities in development of AKPS services under IIDS to farmers for better results at Amudalavalasa KVK on Monday. They said at present 20,000 farmers from 3,000 villages in both Telugu speaking States are utilizing services of scientists through AKPS under IIDS programme by explaining their crop condition over phone by calling to toll free number 1800 425 3141 regularly.

After testing their soil condition at agriculture department or at KVKs farmers can register their details on phone numbers at free of cost. After getting registration they can call any time to toll free number to get guidance of scientists regarding crop cultivation, seed variety, use of pesticides, manure etc.

In Srikakulam 1198 farmers are registered with KVK and utilizing services of scientists through AKPS under IIDS programme, said KVK senior scientist D Chinnam Naidu.

“We are implementing IIDS services in AP, Telangana and Meghalaya and Union overnment is planning to expand it to another 15 States soon,” said T S Anurag.
