Students’ cooperation sought in easing traffic problem
Expressing concern over rising number of fatalities among youth due to rash driving, Chittoor additional superintendent of police V Ratna appealed to young motorists to cooperate with the traffic personnel in maintaining the order on the roads. In the same breath, she warned them of stern action lest they flout the traffic norms.

She was speaking at an awareness programme organised by Chittoor Traffic DSP Kesappa at PVKN Degree College here on Sunday to help students understand about traffic norms.
The additional DSP lamented that the violation of norms by motorists, especially youngsters, was exacerbating the traffic situation in the town which was already suffering due to congested and narrow lanes.
“The population of the city has gone up rapidly without corresponding improvement in roads’ situation. In the last two years, there has been a considerable increase in the vehicular traffic,” she pointed out.
As the Union government has enlisted Chittoor under the AMRUT scheme, beautification works are underway, further compounding the traffic problem in the town, she added.
“The Chittoor Municipal Corporation has to take steps to remove the encroachments on the roads, and take up road widening in important places,” she appealed to the civic body authorities.
Chittoor road transport officer (RTO) Subbarao felt that it had become fashion for the youth to drive rashly. “The authorities concerned are instructed to take all measures to control the movement of illegal in the town. Instructions have been given to school to renew permits of their buses. On the other hand, registration of vehicles has been made easy, and there is no need for motorists to visit the RTO office in this regard, “he added.
