Kadapa: Rajampeta TDP Lok Sabha Constituency in-charge Sai Pratap on Saturday took strong exception to the Centre denying a steel plant to Kadapa on the grounds of lack of feasibility and demanded it to set up a steel unit under the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

Addressing the media along with CPM leaders, the former Minister expressed concern over the Centre turning a deaf ear to pleas of not dividing the State. He accused the Congress and the BJP of bifurcating the State with an eye on elections. He reminded that the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, promised a steel unit to Kadapa district.

The BJP-led NDA government cited various reports stomping its foot on the steel plant, he alleged. He said the Centre bowed down to agitation for steel plant and set up a steel plant at Visakhapatnam even though the region has no captive iron ore mines and exhorted it to set up a steel plant using the modern technology and iron ore available in Kadapa, Kurnool and Chittoor districts.
