- Over one lakh saplings to be planted across Prathipadu Assembly constituency as part of Neeru-Chettu programme
- Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao to kick off the programme by watering a sapling at Lingamparty
The mega plantation drive would bring together 6,000 TDP workers, NSS volunteers, district machinery and innumerable organisations, groups and individuals for the Neeru-Chettu programme initiated by the State government.
Local MLA Varupula Subba Rao said that Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, who is the chief guest at the programme, will inaugurate it by watering a sapling at Lingamparty.
He pointed out that with widespread rainfall throughout the State, this is the right moment for the massive plantation programme. Expressing his concern over the depleting forest cover, he said social forestry programmes would be taken up intensively.
The MLA said, “Apart from planting of the saplings, maintenance and care of the saplings is important to ensure that trees survive.” He said that the ultimate aim was to increase the green cover in the State.
