Kurnool (Alur): As many as 25 persons were injured in the stick-fight at the Devaragattu Bunny festival in the early hours of Wednesday. The condition of two of them is said to be critical and they are currently being treated at Adoni and Kurnool hospitals respectively.

Speaking to The Hans India, Devaragattu Bunny Utsav Committee Chairman Kumar Goud said that nearly 1.5 lakh people from surrounding villages as well as from Karnataka took part in the Bunny Utsavam in the early hours of Wednesday.

Around 25 persons were injured in the stick-fight including a policeman. While some of them sustained bleeding injuries, the others received burn injuries. Treatment was extended to all the injured at the first-aid centre set up at the spot by the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO).

Thikkanna from Alur and Jayanna from Thummalabeedu village were seriously wounded in the event. While Jayanna was rushed to Adoni government hospital, Thikkanna is being treated at Kurnool hospital.

The chairman said that they had been successful in bringing down the number of injured this year compared to the previous years, on account of the awareness camps conducted at the villages, one month in advance of the event.

Alur TDP leader Veera Bhadri Goud said that the number of injured was very less considering the huge crowd turnout of nearly 1.5 lakh. He said that those who received burn injuries were more in number compared to those who were injured in the stick fight.

Collector Ch Vijay Mohan and Superintendent of Police Ake Ravi Krishna assured that they would bring down the number of injured to zero in the coming years.
