The Prakasam Barrage had completed 60 years tenure after construction of second time on December 24.

In this connection, Rao visited the barrage on Saturday and garlanded the statue of Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu and paid rich tributes to him.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government would plan to organise a festival at barrage.

The WRD department would take responsibility and make all arrangements for the said function, he added.

Pending works would be completed very soon and it would be strengthened.

It would be developed as jewel of Amaravati and the works concerned would begin shortly, he said.

The then government constructed anicut on River Krishna in 1852 and supplied irrigation and drinking water to people on the recommendation of Sir Arthur Cotton, he added.

The anicut works were done on the direction of Captain Ore with a cost of two lakhs, he added.

Anicut had a breach after serving Delta for 100 years, Uma said.

The then Chief Minister Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu has laid a foundation stone for construction of new barrage on river Krishna in the year 1952 and it was completed in 1957, he said.

Later, Chief Minister Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy inaugurated Prakasam Barrage, he explained.

He further said that the Prakasam Barrage importance has doubled after merging the River Godavari water into Krishna at Pavitra Sangamam.

Krishna Delta Chief Engineer (CE) YS Sudhakar and other officers accompanied him.
