The issue surrounding the alleged denial of access to city for the residents of Krishnalanka in view of a four-lane highway under construction has taken a curious twist, thanks to a taped conversation that reportedly took place between the local MLA Gadde Ramamohan Rao of the TDP and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) official spokesperson K Sivaji.
Vijayawada: The issue surrounding the alleged denial of access to city for the residents of Krishnalanka in view of a four-lane highway under construction has taken a curious twist, thanks to a taped conversation that reportedly took place between the local MLA Gadde Ramamohan Rao of the TDP and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) official spokesperson K Sivaji.
Highlights:
- APCC official spokesperson K Sivaji exposes TDP MLA Gadde Ramamohan Rao in a TV debate by revealing the recorded conversation over phone
- Gadde lodges a complaint with Krishnalanka police seeking action against the Congress leader for fomenting caste tensions in the area through the media
The MLA was accused of abusing a section of Krishnalanka residents by naming their caste in the phone conversation, saying that particular community was politicising the highway issue.
Sivaji, who recorded the conversation with the MLA, presented it in a TV debate. Peeved at his action, Gadde lodged a complaint with the Krishnalanka police seeking action against the Congress leader for fomenting caste tensions in the area through the media.
The police promptly registered a case against Sivaji under various sections. This all happened a few days ago after the detention of a Hyderabad-based techie by Thulluru police for his post allegedly demeaning the State Assembly, Chief Minister N Channdrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh under the IT Act.
Sivaji further stated that the TDP MLA also said in the phone conversation that he was intending to write to the Chief Election Commission seeking to exclude three divisions in Krishnalanka area from his Vijayawada East Assembly constituency which comprises the numerically strong community which is hostile to his party. Rammohan, however, clarified that there is no truth in the so-called recorded evidences produced by the Congress leader.
The four-lane highway has proposed from the Pandit Nehru Bus station and Krishnamma Varadhi that tears Krishnalanka with around 1.5 lakh population apart. The residents lost houses in course of highway expansion and got deprived of access to the main city due to the lack of sufficient sub-ways.
The real estate value in the area plummeted and the house owners failed to find tenants for want of connectivity. The area obviously became a hotbed for protests as the opposition parties mended the fences to score over the ruling TDP. CPM staged a 72-hour protest demanding at least three subways connecting Krishnalanka and the main city on the other side of the highway.
Sivaji gave a social angle to the fate of Krishnalanka which is allegedly far away from development. The government is allegedly biased against a few dominant and forward castes which is evident in development of Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road area, Bharatinagar and Currency Nagar while ignoring Krishnalanka inhabited by the poor and backward classes, he charged.
