Kakinada: Study of the watershed management of the local area is an opportunity to the engineering students to expertise in their academic career, said the collector Karthikeya Misra. Interacting with the principals of various engineering colleges at JNTU, here on Monday ,the collector said that a massive programme of Neeru-Pragathi had been initiated by the government for 90 days commencing from 20 April 2017 and it would continue till 20 July .
He further said that the government had decided to involve the students in studying the water table of the local areas, assessing the local water availability and its usage duly interacting with local agencies and the public and come up with specific recommendations.
The district possesses upland, agency and delta areas and the deltaic irrigation system in the district from Dowleswaram downwards is a unique feature of the district for study on watershed and water audit, he added requesting the students of engineering colleges, especially civil and environmental engineering branches to involve actively in this water table study and to come with a specific recommendations on water utilisation .
The collector requested the principals of the colleges to adopt agency and upland mandals in the district for this study by forming student teams .Study of satellite images ,utilising soft skill perception were also suggested by the collector ,saying that it’s a rare opportunity to the students ,to study in the fields and the participants would be given certificated by the district administration .
J Radha Krishna Murthy, JC 2 said that 1,282 works with an estimated cost of Rs122.74 crore were proposed to take up in this district under Neeru-Chettu programme by the irrigation department to improve the water table in the district .SE irrigation B Rambabu ,principals of various engineering colleges were present in this meeting.
