Thondangi (East Godavari): Efforts are being made to improve the functioning of the government educational institutions on par with the corporate institutes, said HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

While participating at the inaugural function of a new degree college at Perumallapuram village in Thondangi mandal of East Godavari district on Monday, the Minister said that many provisions like mid-day meal, free uniform and free books and extracurricular activities are being implemented for promoting education in government schools.

He stressed the need for the government schools to compete with private institutions on educational standards. Ganta pointed that the budget for education sector has been enhanced to Rs 23,000 crore this year.He further said that the government was aiming to provide quality education to the students at every level.

Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said that Perumallapuram is a backward coastal village, where fishermen reside.
He said establishing a degree college in the village would help the students of the area pursue higher education.He said laying a four-lane road at a cost of Rs 4000 crore as part of the coastal corridor, would help in further development of the area.

The Minister said that Rs 13 crore has been sanctioned for the degree college at Perumallapuram.Yanamala foundation has contributed Rs four lakh for furniture to the college. Earlier, the HRD Minister opened the new degree college. AP Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Reddy Subrahmnayam, Tuni MLA Dadisetti Raja, Tuni Market Committee chairman Yanamala Krishnudu and others attended.
