  • There are around 3,700 centres in the district and officials have merged nearby ones for providing English medium classes
  • Parents are happy to send their kids to Anganwadi centres for pursuing English medium classes without spending a single rupee

Tiny tots of these centres, who study nursery and kindergarten classes in the age group of 2-4 will be taught alphabets, on par with popular convent schools. Even parents also feeling happy that their kids are pursuing English medium classes without spending a single rupee.

It may be recalled that Women and Child Welfare Minister Paritala Sunitha had earlier announced that Anganwadi centres in the state are being converted into English medium pre-schools on par with corporate schools. Three-four Anganwadi centres located within one kilometre radius were clubbed in urban areas to launch the ambitious programme.

There are around 3,700 Anganwadi centres in the district and the officials amalgamated nearby centres and selected 60 centres on a pilot basis for making them as English medium pre-schools. There the kids will be categorised according to their age and intelligent quotient for accommodating in nursery, lower and upper kindergarten classes.

The process had already started in the district on pilot basis and would be replicated shortly to other centres finding efficacy of it. Officials, who had premeditated teaching structure have provided training to Anganwadi teachers concerned for five days a couple of months ago locally at mandal-level on how to handle these nursery and kindergarten classes.

The kids were being provided uniforms, books and other materials like other schools. Officials also monitoring the system from time to time as majority teachers in the centres were provided group mobile sim cards. “Now, villagers are showing much interest on Anganwadi centres in rural areas since their kids are also pursuing English medium education.

Earlier, there was disregard on the centres and presently parents are happy with the system,” said an Anganwadi teacher from Atmakur mandal. But, material like books, uniforms and others must be provided to these centres.

She explained their centre was not merged with any main school and observed as a pilot school, hence they received only books for three categories of classes. Even, educated teachers working in these centres are happy as they were being respected by local people because of English classes.

ICDS Project Director was not available to comment on the programme being taken up in 60 centres on pilot basis.
