Chittoor: In response to a misrepresentation of facts by some irresponsible people, Chittoor Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner reportedly gave instructions to demolish the house of a freedom fighter. It is situated near the Church street which is in the heart of the city. EAArunachalam, the freedom fighter was the owner of the house, who died three decades ago. His two unmarried daughters and aged son are living in the house.

Some of the anti-social elements have made sincere efforts to evict them and occupy the house by way of threatening them as the value of the site was said to be in crores. Though it is the oldest structure, certain renovation has been done to reside in the house in a safe manner.

Owing to pressures and the false representations of the so called vested interests, the official machinery of revenue, civic body and the police have decided to demolish the house without initiating an enquiry, according to Ravamani, freedom fighter’s daughter and also the editor, Voice of Rayalaseema weekly.Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, Ravamanilamented that she was desperate and living in miserable conditions in the house. She said that it was not a building buta cement-sheeted house.

Due repairs weretaken up recently to make it convenient for residing purpose. “We are leading miserable lives struggling to meet our both ends. There would be no other go for us except to commit suicide if the house is demolished,” she said weeping bitterly.

She reminded them that their pathetic story was already published in the print media also. As an editor of a newspaper and the daughter of a freedom fighter, she decried that she could not get any support from any sections in the society.When contacted, Chittoor DSP Subba Rao made it clear that police would not take any step in this regard and demolition of the house wasunder the purview of municipal corporation.It was up to the municipal corporation to take a decision, he added.
