Amaravati: Focus on shifting of crops will increase agriculture income to the farmers, observed Governor ESL Narasimhan in a teleconference organised by the State government on Monday, in which Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, officials from agriculture, irrigation and other departments also participated.

Narasimhan further directed the government to intensify utilisation of cutting edge technology in agriculture sector to make the sector sustainable, according to the information provided by CM’s Office.

In a sudden move, the Governor attended the review meeting on Neeru-Pragati, a weekly review being organised by Chandrababu Naidu and appreciated the efforts of officials. Shifting of crops and increasing productivity of all crops will help farmers to generate more income, Narasimhan said during the teleconference.

As farmers could not depend on rains all the time; storing storm water, saving extra water and efficient water management were best practices to overcome water problems, he explained. The government should take up the responsibility of creating awareness on water management among public and farmers, he opined.

If agriculture sector is stabilised, then it will help in the development of all other sectors, he stated. He directed officials to make optimum utilisation of the funds available in MNREGA for water conservation, agriculture and allied sectors development.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials to utilise all the available funds as soon as possible, as there are only five months left in the current financial year. All the targets of agriculture sector should be reached by the end of current fiscal, he stated.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to spend the material component of Rs 400 crore under MNREGA. This was the only programme for which Central government has been releasing funds generously and immediately, he observed.
