Chandrababu Naidu neglecting Telugu language, flays Yarlagadda
Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Padma Bhushan Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad charged the Chief Minister with ‘disrespecting’ Telugu language.
Visakhapatnam: Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Padma Bhushan Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad charged the Chief Minister with ‘disrespecting’ Telugu language.
He alleged that the Chief Minister had made promises in regard to protection of mother tongue, but failed to keep his word. The prominent Telugu writer expressed solidarity with the ‘Satyagraha’ taken up by Telugu Dandu, a platform for poets, writers, teachers, Telugu language lovers and students. The agitators have been on ‘Satyagraha’ for the 20th day at Gandhi Statue near GVMC in the city.
After sitting along with the protesters on the stage at the protest venue on Monday, Lakshmi Prasad said the Chief Minister, his Ministers and MLAs have been turning a blind eye to this protest.
“Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was known for taking stock of everything happening across the State. I wonder how he could not take note of the protest happening here for the last 20 days,” he lamented and demanded that the TDP government should implement the promises made in its manifesto for protection and development of Telugu language.
“The State government has not taken any step to see that invitations, name boards, plaques and advertisements contained Telugu language,” he pointed out. “On one side, the government claims Telugu would be made mandatory for the students’ right from Class-I to Intermediate. But it failed to implement the tall assurances made during Gidugu Ram Murthy Pantulu Jayanthi on August 29, for two consecutive years 2016 and 2017,” he pointed out.
Later, in the evening after visiting the protest venue, Lok Satta founder Jayaprakash Narayan extended his support for the cause of protecting Telugu language. nTelugu Dandu convener Paravasty Phanishayana Suri demanded setting up of a Board for Telugu Language and to see that GO 14 was implemented. Dr Jaladi Vijaya, B Ratan Raju, M Siva Jyothi, Devisri, Lakshmi Bhargavi, Arun Kumar, Pushpa Latha and others were present.
