Ongole: Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan has requested the bureaucrats and officials to shun the contemptuous attitude and re-learn to be sensitive towards people’s feelings. Pawan said this when he met the kith and kin of the Krishna river boat victims in Ongole on Saturday and appealed to Tourism minister Akhila Priya to express concern for the victims with compassion.

About 60 members of the Ongole Walkers Club went to Vijayawada on a trip and 18 of them from 13 families lost their lives in a mishap in Krishna River on November 12. The Jana Sena chief interacted with the kin of the 15 victims from 11 families at the NTR Kalakshetram, here.

He invited a few of the bereaved people and survivors like Rayapati Subbayamma, Vani, Jellipalli Purnachandra Rao, Sayana Srilakshmi, Devabhaktini Mansaswini onto the dais and let them share their version of the accident. The survivors and the bereaved family members blamed the Tourism and Irrigation departments for allowing the unlicensed boats in the river. The victims asked the officials to think a bit of their pain.

Pawan Kalyan questioned the negligence on the part of the officials in allowing the boat to ply in the river without minimum life-saving equipment due to alleged pressure of politicians. He said those in the government are forgetting that they sailed the sea of elections with the boat called vote of common people. He said, “Tourism minister Akhila Priya had lost her parents in short span of time and she should have feel the pain of these victims, too.

The government should have spent Rs 5 lakh to place the life jackets available for everyone than spending lakhs in the name of ex gratia, which cannot bring back the diseased. The government should also take care of the fishermen who saved few people in the incident.” Pawan said the present-day politics are lacking accountability. He said, “The lack of accountability in politics is the reason for present-day situation. The Opposition had lost the chance of questioning the government in the Assembly by boycotting the session.

Akhila Priya and the officials should take the accountability and transparently inquire why the Tourism department is allowing the boats without permission in the river. When we are speaking about the global level capital, the standards should also be at the same level. The tears bring anger and anger motivates agitation. As a man, I supported the ruling parties at the state and Centre. I am seeking forgiveness from these families.”
