Nellore: Hereafter, the BJP leadership in the district is planning to play a catalyst role for the benefit of the district with intensified fight against injustice. Consequently, anti-Venkaiah forces in BJP are getting united in the district as the senior leader has been elevated as Vice-President of India who was earlier monitoring party affairs directly.
The rift between the leaders and Venkaiah has not been bridged and his rival group in the party had already started making scathing attacks against the ruling TDP in the State and also demanding construction of the much-awaited Dugarajapatnam port.
In fact, there has been underlying dissidence in the party and a rival group seems to have formed even at the State level too. But, the leaders confined themselves to the party activities as per directions of their leadership and the resistance was almost cloak-and-dagger.
There has been open criticism that no second line cadre was promoted by party senior leaders for the benefit of the party keeping in view of the future.
Now, as soon as the top leader and front runner of the party from the district has been elevated to a top position, the gap has to be filled by a man from the next generation but it was almost ignored. Till now, majority leaders in Nellore were maintaining almost silence following obligatory ‘discipline’ of the party where there is no chance for open criticism.
But, for some time, the system has gradually been changing with sarcastic attacks by the leaders, MLCs and others against the State government for its failures, alleged disregard towards leaders, violation of coalition norms, and lacking coordination with the ruling party at national level.
At this juncture, leaders in the district went up in arms against failures of the State government such as not involving them in Janmabhoomi Committees, giving no priority in the process of beneficiary selection, and no consideration for their requests.
They freshly started direct criticism against the TDP government even though they are in a position to contact the national leadership for resolving the issues directly which is giving chance for curiosity among common people.
“There was no voice for district leaders earlier as the ‘top leader’ had taken the party into his control. Because of his close intimacy with the Chief Minister, and others we failed to comment on any issue. How long can we wait when the requests were being turned down by the State? We need the much awaited port and justice to the district in many aspects,” said a State level leader speaking to The Hans India.
Freshly, the state general secretary of BJP and other leaders started protests on local issues similar to the Opposition and they took out demonstration in front of the Collectorate demanding allocation of land for the Dugarajapatnam Port on Saturday which came in as some kind of surprise for political analysts since the agitators represent the ruling national party.
“It is clear that there was some coterie that has been denying interests of the district. It was because of some undisclosed bond between leaders of both ruling parties at the State and national level and we need to be united and decided to approach the party leadership shortly in Delhi for explaining about the scenario keeping the upcoming polls in view,” said a party leader from the district. He added that though they may not be successful but their intention was to give a clue on the situation to the party high command.
