Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that stern action would be taken on rapists and gave a call that Dachepalli rape incident should be last such offence in the State.
He said the rapists don’t have the right to live on earth and they would be punished severely at any cost. The Chief Minister made an emotional speech at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium on Monday night after flagging of a rally at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram to create awareness on the rights of the women and protection of children.
The meeting and rally were conducted as part of the rallies taken out in the State with the slogan ‘Aadabiddaku Rakshanaga Kaduludaam’. Thousands of people attended the meeting at the IGMC Stadium.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the rapists have no right to live on the earth and people should fight unitedly to punish the perpetrators of crime. The meeting was organised in view of the brutal rape of a nine-year-old girl in Dachepalli mandal of Guntur district recently. The culprit a 53-year-old Subbaiah had committed suicide by hanging from a tree after the incident.
Referring to the Dachepalli incident, Naidu said the entire village had opposed the barbaric act and decided to punish the guilty. He said the criminal had no choice but to commit suicide after committing the heinous offence on an innocent girl. The Chief Minister said that he spoke to the parents of the victim and the government announced Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to the family.
Chandrababu Naidu earlier flagged off a rally organised by the Krishna district administration at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. Rallies were organised from four places in the city and reached the IGMC Stadium where the Chief Minister spoke at length on women and children’s safety. He said criminals were beasts and look like human beings.
He felt judiciary should also involve actively in checking such heinous offences. He said if the trial continues for five or 10 years, the culprits would resort to committing repeated offences.
He underlined the need to finish the trial in 2-3 months so that the criminals would get punishment immediately. He opined the perpetrators of crime were resorting to such criminal acts due to lack of fear. He said when there is no fear the criminals go on rampage.
Chandrababu Naidu asked the police to give first preference to acting on the cases of crime against women. He said the police personnel too have daughters and sisters and they should think of the problems of the victims.
He said people should come forward to opposing evil acts. Naidu suggested that a register should be maintained giving names of the perpetrators of crime and it should be put online so that everybody gets to know about the criminals.
He emphasised the need for active participation of people’s representatives like MLAs, MPs, corporators, DWCRA groups, government organisations like MEPMA and NGOs to create awareness on crimes against women.
He cautioned the people saying that in most cases, the culprits are known people, neighbours and relatives and suggested the parents should be very careful about them.
He said technology has pros and cons and parents should keep vigil on their children and on how they were using the mobile phones and modern technology.
He said some countries have restricted porn sites and the State government would discuss with the Central government to follow it. He said thinking of people should change and they should work unitedly to check such offences.
State Mahila Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari, DGP M Malakondaiah, chess grandmaster Koneru Hampi, ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, Collector B Lakshmikantham, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas, officials from police, revenue, women and child welfare, education departments and others participated in the meeting.
