Fight for girls & women, youth told at World Youth Day celebrations in Ongole

Ongole: The youth should come forward to fight the discrimination and harassment being faced by the girls and women in society, said Tammisetty Ramadevi, member of the Andhra Pradesh Women Commission.
She participated in the World Youth Day celebrations organised by the HELP Girls Advocacy Alliance and Child Line along with the students of Umamaheswara College in Ongole on Sunday.
Ramadevi advised the girls participating in the celebrations to work hard to improve their importance in society by fighting against the discrimination and violence.
She called for their collective efforts to end the inequalities and injustice towards the women and girls.
The Child Welfare Committee chairperson, Ch Bharati said that education was the correct weapon to fight the issues being faced by the girls and she advised the students to never dropout of college.
She advised them to seek the help of police, if they were being forced to get marry by dropping out from the college.
DEO V Subbarao asked the youth to keep themselves away from the bad habits and concentrate on education and skill development. He advised them to also know the social issues and react to them accordingly.
The HELP GAA Coordinator K Ramesh said that they were working for the equal opportunities and rights for women.
He sought help of the girls and youth in controlling child marriages, human trafficking and other modes of robbing the women.
The HELP programme officer, BV Sagar said that the youth day was celebrated to create awareness to the youth on issues being faced by them, their priority in society and the key role to be played by them.
The Umamaheswara College correspondent, Jayalakshmi, Malleswara Rao, Child Line coordinator Naik, HELP programme officer NVS Murthy, Sulochana, Sasikanth also participated in the programme.
