Ongole: The Muslim fraternity in the Prakasam district celebrated the Bakrid on Wednesday with gaiety and fervour.

At Ongole Eidgah, thousands of Muslims gathered in the morning for the special prayers and Khutbah, the preaching by the learned in the community.

The speakers encouraged the community to cultivate peace, promote universal values and brotherhood with the fellow civilizations.

They mentioned the plight of Kerala now and prayed to the Allah to bestow peace and comfort to the suffering people due to the floods.

They prayed the almighty that to offer sufficient rain in places like Prakasam district which are suffering from the scarcity of water, but provide content for the people suffering with the floods and give comfort to the families who lost their beloved.

Similar prayers were done in Podili Eidgah as part of Bakrid. The speakers explained the importance of Eid-ul-Adha and how Prophet Ibrahim offered his son Ismail for Khurbani.

They prayed Allah to dissent floods in Kerala and provide rain to Podili and surrounding areas where they are struggling for the drinking water also.
