Visakhapatnam: The National Unity Day popularly known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was celebrated in a grand manner at all government offices, educational institutions, police, armed forces and Public Sector Units in the city on Wednesday. The day is being celebrated every year as part of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
On the occasion, HPCL Visakh Refinery has organised ‘Run for Unity’ Integration of India for National Unity and Vigilance Awareness Rally to bring awareness among the general public, stakeholders at RK Beach in coordination with other SBUs of HPCL including Visakha Regional Office, LPG, Black Oil Terminal and White Oil Terminals. A S V Ramanan, Executive Director-Visakh Refinery and S Raja, Executive Director-VRMP jointly flagged off the ‘Run for Unity.’
At an another programme ED, Visakh Refinery, A S V Ramanan administered the pledge in Hindi and B Balagangadharam, Chief General Manager-Technical in English and paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the refinery premises. CGM–Minor Projects Y Sriramulu, CGM-Finance N Ramachandran, CGM-Materials G Rama and GM HR Narisetty Rajarao were present.
RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant celebrated the day to mark the birth anniversary of Sardhar Vallabhbhai Patel with the objective to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of our nation. KC Das, Director (Personnel), RINL, senior officers and HODs of various departments across the organisation administered the unity pledge to mark the occasion. KC Das flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ in which large number of children from schools of Ukkunagaram and RINL employees participated.
Speaking on the occasion, KC Das exhorted employees to foster and reinforce their dedication to preserve and strengthen the unity, integrity and security of India. RV Rao, Executive Director (Corporate Services) and Chairman, VSP Sports Committee, MS Kumar, HOD(Sports), representatives of Steel Executive Association, unions, SC and ST welfare association were present.
The police department, VUDA, district administration and several other agencies also observed the day by organising run and meetings to mark the occasion. The city police conducted a rally on the beach front. All police wings and personnel were present in the run.
The district administration and VUDA also conducted a run and rally on the beach road. Collector Pravin Kumar, Commissioner of VMDRA Basanth Kumar, MP K Haribabu and several senior officials were present.
The Waltair Division organised the ‘Run for Unity’ to mark on the occasion. Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur lead the gathering from DRM’s Office to Visakhapatnam Railway station. Officials, staff from various departments, sports persons, civil defence personnel and Scouts and Guides participated in the Run for Unity.
On the occasion, the DRM said that Sardar Vallabhai Patel has been credited with the unification of India and provided all of us an opportunity to reaffirm the inherent strength and spirit of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of the country.
