Kurnool: District Collector S Sathyanarayana called upon the people to get inspiration from Dr Abul Kalam Azad, the Bharat Ratna awardee who had rendered effortless services to strengthen the education sector.
The Collector participated as a chief guest at the 131st birth anniversary celebrations of Dr Abul Kalam Azad organised Sunaina Auditorium on Sunday. City MLA SV Mohan Reddy, District Minorities Welfare Officer Mastan Vali, District Education Officer Tehara Sulatana, committee member of 15 points, Tukar Naziv Sab, John Christopher and others participated.
Later addressing the gathering, the Collector said Dr Abul Kalam Azad had worked for protecting national integrity and contributed enormous services to education field. He had given more preference to education at national level and also brought several reforms. Of the total population in the district, around 16 per cent are Muslim Minorities who lags behind in education, the Collector pointed out.
If they could pursue good education, then they can improve their financial status. To uplift the Muslim Minorities on all fronts, several welfare schemes are being implemented by allocating Rs.45 crores to Minority Corporation. Around Rs.6 crore worth units have been sanctioned to the beneficiaries and are likely to ground on Monday, said S Sathyanarayana.
City Legislator, SV Mohan Reddy said that elimination of poverty is only possible with education. Most of the Muslim community people are illiterates. The government has announced to observe Dr Abul Kalam Azad’s Jayanthi as Education and Minorities Welfares Day. As a Minister to Education department, D r Abul Kalam Azad had strengthened the education sector, the MLA said.
District Minorities Welfare Officer (DMWO), Mastan Vali said around 9 lakh Minorities population is there in the district. Loans to the actual beneficiaries and scholarships to the students are being sanctioned from the department. For their welfare, Rs.47.15 crores have been sanctioned to 9,431 Minorities women in the district, stated Mastan Vali.
District Education Officer (DEO), Tehera Sulatana and committee member of 15 points also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the officials garlanded the photo of Dr Abul Kalam Azad. Later, the officials gave out prizes to the students who were selected in the essay and elocution competitions.
