Nellore: The Nellore Urban Development Authority (NUDA) received a single tender for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed 42-km Outer Ring Road (ORR) of the city. Mumbai based STUP Consultants has submitted a tender and the district administration is in dilemma whether to consider the bid or to go further retendering according to procedure.

The NUDA had invited tenders for DPR in August this year. The state government had proposed an ORR with 42-km length and width of 200 feet to relieve traffic pressure on the mini bypass road, GNT road, and also on the National Highway-16 and other major road networks of the city.

The Ministry of Urban Development asked the civic authorities to submit a DPR on the proposed project in the first quarter of this year. Joint Director of Urban Development Ministry Praveen Prakash also visited Nellore city and directed the officials to submit the DPR.

Subsequently, NUDA invited tenders in August and very recently officials found that only a single tender has been filed from the STUP Consultants.

STUP is a popular international consultancy company having 20 offices across the globe and it offers services in integrated planning, comprehensive building designs, power, transportation, telecom, and also in many sectors.

“We have invited tenders for the DPR during this August and received only a tender. The Committee discussed the issue on Tuesday night and is observing rule position what the next step to be followed in such cases.

Will come to a conclusion shortly on the situation,” said NUDA Chairman K Srinivasulu Reddy. The city is having a wide network of more than 300 km for serving needs of city commuters and the main road connecting Atmakur bus stand and the highway via RTC bus complex and Ayyapagudi Junction for 12 km is experiencing severe strain with the huge vehicular traffic. City has been expanding day by day and there are more than 15,000 vehicles only in city limits giving terrifying experience to the commuters.

Commercial carriers have to take either bypass or the national highway to reach places like Stonehouspet, Chinnabazaar, Nawabpet and others only during the time fixed by the traffic police. District administration felt the need for ORR which will address traffic related hurdles.

The main feature of the ORR is connecting bypass road, NH-5, Jonnawada road and Podalakur road giving respite to the city population. District Collector R Mutyala Raju also reviewed with the officials on the issue and asked them to verify antecedents of the STUP consultants and their efficiency of preparing the DPR and present a report in the next meeting.
