Rajamahendravaram: Stating that APSRTC was incurring a loss of Rs 3 crore per day, corporation’s vice-chairman and managing director N V Surendra Babu said and alternative steps were initiated to come out of the losses.

Moreover, RTC was purchasing 30 crore litre diesel per year for its use, he added Speaking to reporters at Roads and Buildings guest house here on Tuesday, Surendra Babu said the main cause for the loss was rise in diesel prices, payment of DA, pensions and other emoluments to the employees.

To mop up resources, the RTC was trying to increase its income from other sources such as by giving stalls for rent through open auction, cargo transport, bringing down costs, leasing out its lands and buildings and by increasing kmph per litre and other means.

He said owing to the efforts of RTC staff occupation ratio in the buses had increased to 78 per cent from 68 per cent in all categories and the goal was to achieve 83 per cent occupation ratio. RTC has a tracking facility to 96 per cent of its vehicles in the state, he added. Surendra Babu said plans are afoot to purchase buses by spending Rs 300 crore and RTC was not running outdated buses.

Further, APSRTC has decided to arrange closed circuit(CC) cameras in all buses across the state for the safety of passengers and staff and currently, 80 z buses have this facility, the MD said.

He said plans were afoot to expand cargo services to mandal headquarters by appointing agents on commission basis. This year it was targeted to get Rs 75 crore through cargo transportation as against of Rs 43 crore last year and Rs 9 crore in 2016.
