Jeep India is already organising a press conference on April 12, 2017, where the India-spec Compass is likely to be unveiled. However, before that happens, Jeep India has now teased the upcoming Compass on its youtube channel.
And according to the video description, the upcoming Compass will have 4x4 capability, 50+ safety features, unmatched build quality and an authentic Jeep DNA. Earlier, the Compass had already been listed on Jeep's official website as 'coming soon'.
The Jeep Compass made its global debut in September last year and is being sold in the international market currently. However, the Indian version is likely to be launched in June 2017 and will have a very competitive price (expected Rs 18-20 lakh), courtesy heavy localisation. The Compass will be Jeep's first product to be manufactured at FCA's plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra and it has also been spotted testing on several occasions near the plant. The Compass will be sold in more than 100 countries and India is the only place where the right-hand–drive variant will be manufactured.
The Compass is being offered in 17 different powertrain combinations in the international market, however, the Indian version is likely to have a 1.4-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine under the hood. As far as transmission is concerned, it is likely to have a six-speed manual unit with an optional nine-speed automatic.
The Compass is loaded to the brim with features. It has LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, 3.5/7-inch LED driver information display, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a list of safety and security features. It will primarily compete with the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan. Volkswagen also recently started the production of the Tiguan in India and is likely to launch it in the coming months.
