Bajaj launched the Dominar 400 power-cruiser last December and took the market by storm with an introductory price tag of Rs. 1.36 lakhs for the non-ABS variant. It’s obvious that when a motorcycle so good was offered for a mouth-watering price like that, demand would be on the higher side.
Hence sales initially were approximately over 3000 units a month but off late have started to diminish. Sales of the Dominar are February 2017 – 3082 units, March 2017 – 3216 units, May 2017 – 882 units and June 2017 – 927 units.
KTM launched its 2017 range of motorcycles in February including the Duke 200, Duke 390 and Duke 250 (which came as a surprise). In comparison to the Dominar’s sales figures, the KTM 390s (both Duke 390 as well as RC 390) sales are February 2017 – 418 units, March 2017 – 871 units, May 2017 – 1713 units and June 2017 – 1627 units.
It is clear that demand for the Dominar 400 has lessened while for the KTMs, demand has surged. It remains to be seen what strategy will Bajaj adopt to increase the sales of the Dominar. Bajaj targets to sell the Dominar at 10,000 units every month.
All the three motorcycles here in question come powered by the same engine, however in the Dominar 400, Bajaj has used inferior hardware and tuned it differently to match its cruiser characteristics. All the three bikes come powered by a 373.3cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that is mated to a 6-speed gearbox but come with different power and torque figures.
