Hyderabad: Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, on Monday launched second generation model of Alto K10, its small car. Aggressively priced from Rs 3.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the latest Alto K10 comes with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) option, thereby becoming the first model in the mini car segment to get an auto gear shift.

The automaker is hopeful that the new small car will rev up its sales in the all-important mini car segment as it is not only available with AMT option, but also comes with higher fuel efficiency of 24.07 km/l mileage, an increase of 15 per cent from the outgoing model.

Available in a total of six variants, the four petrol versions of the model that are fitted with manual transmission are priced between Rs 3.06 lakh and Rs. 3.56 lakh. However, the auto gear shift version comes with a price tag of Rs 3.80 lakh. This time, the automaker has also added a CNG version which, available at Rs 3.82 lakh, offers a fuel economy of 32.26 km per every kg of CNG.

"Alto K10 is the third Maruti Suzuki model we have launched in the past few weeks with improved mileage. We have sold over 4 lakh units of Alto K10 in the last four years and the new Alto K10 will further increase sales ," Kenichi Ayukawa, MD &CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, told media in New Delhi after launching the model.

The automaker which invested over Rs 200 crore on the new model is now positioning it as a mass market product equipped with futuristic technology such as AMT. After the Celerio last year, the Alto K10 is the second model to be equipped with auto gear shift feature. Interestingly, the new Alto K10 has come at a time when the company’s sales in the mini segment, comprising Alto and WagonR, witnessed 2.6 per cent decline in the April-October period this fiscal at 2,37,474 units as against 2,43,714 units a year ago.(With inputs from agencies)
