The Telangana government has decided to take up green book system, a unique programme to supervise greenery in all the industrial areas in the State.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to take up green book system, a unique programme to supervise greenery in all the industrial areas in the State. “Under the programme, a third of the industrial areas will be earmarked for planting trees. The system (green book) will enable all the industrial units to upload the number of trees planted in their premises through geo mapping,” Telangana IT and Industries K T Rama Rao said on Friday.

All the industrial areas would be surveyed through a photogrammetric method, which would help the government have complete details of all the trees planted. A survey would be taken up during all the seasons, the Minister said. Stating that the government is planning to increase the green cover to one-third of the area over the next three years, Rao asked the industries to take up plantation as part of the ‘Haritha Haram’ programme.

The Minister, along with Principal Secretary (industries) Arvind Kumar, Commissioner of Industries Manick Raj, TSIIC Managing Director Narasimha Reddy and other officials planted saplings in various industrial parks at Muppireddypalli village of Toopran mandal in Medak district.

“By increasing the green cover, the pollution caused by the industries can be reduced to a large extent,” Rao said. The industries department has decided to plant 42 lakh saplings throughout the State. Of these, 32 lakh saplings will be planted by the Commissioner of Industries, while 10.74 lakh saplings will be planted in the 176 industrial parks across the State.
