Tirupati: Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta stressed the need for speedy disposal of pending cases in the lower courts and directed the Lok Adalats to play an active role at local level to resolve the cases quickly. He inaugurated the 11th Additional District Judge and Sessions Court in Piler on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Gupta said that the courts that exist now were not sufficient to deal with the large number of pending cases, which run into thousands. There was a need of providing basic infrastructure in many courts as well filling the vacant posts, he said. In the next two or three months he said that he would take initiative to fill the vacant posts, he added. The courts were not in proportion to the population.

He urged the Lok Adalats to go to the public and take up cases so that the pending cases would get reduced. The judiciary and advocates have to create awareness among the people on approaching the Lok Adalats with their disputes, he said. He also advised advocates and judges to use the latest advanced technology in clearing the pending cases and deliver justice quickly.

Justice N.V. Ramana, A.P. High Court Judge, said that the speedy redressal was the best solution to minimize the pendency of cases. Lot of confidence has to be created among the public on judiciary system by delivering the justice as top priority. Then only wrong perceptions can be rooted out from the public mindset, he added. The need of developing skills among the advocates is also one of the important issues, he said.

"With this we can avoid the clients to approach the higher courts challenging the orders delivered in lower courts," he said. Justice KC Bhanu, District Judge Ravi Babu, Bar Association President Sudhakar Reddy and others were present on the occasion.
