Chandamama Kathalu“The film’s trailer has created waves – 2 lakh views in two days! The movie will do the same,” exclaims Shamili as she talks about her upcoming film, ‘Chandamama Kathalu’.

“This is a different film. I think it will break the perception that Telugu cinema is formulaic,” adds the 23-year-old who essays the role of a school girl in her debut vehicle. “I play the role of a 16-year-old girl who falls in love, and it is a very sweet story,” she says about her role in this anthology film.

“I was given a choice between two characters – a village girl, and a school girl. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to justify the character of a village belle. I have no previous experience in acting, you see. So I opted for the school girl’s role as I have passed through that phase and it would be easier for me to portray that part,” she adds.

Interestingly, Shamili is busy with four other films even before her first release, and says, “I have signed a three film deal with director Maruthi, and I am working on ‘Kai Raja Kai’, ‘Chitram Vichitram ‘and ‘Lovers’ with him. Other than that, there is another untiled film that is on the cards.”

Having ventured into acting through her modeling stint, Shamili says she will select roles depending on the story first. “The dressing is also important. I am not comfortable with exposing in the movies. I want to be dressed in a decent way, but that doesn’t mean I am conservative. I just want to be presentable,” she tells us.

So does Shamili have any dream role? “There wasn’t any particular dream role in my mind. But I recently watched Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Queen’ and I think if it is ever remade in Telugu, I would suit the character perfectly. I loved her in the film,” she says before signing off.
