When chords resonated with heartbeats

French music is known for its eclectic flavour. This was proved right by the Remi Panossian Trio at Park Hyatt on Friday evening. A perfect blend of piano keys, bass and drums was seen in the renditions. The gig, unlike the usual ones, was aimed at a niche audience.

When I say niche, I don’t mean French people or people who know French. Perhaps, I refer to those who love a commixture of blues and jazz. And, for these people, the band’s performance was no less than a glass of French wine. Also, the concert was music based and not lyrics based, which again makes it stand among other gigs.

Remi Panossian’s decades of experience on the piano was evident in the way he swiftly played all the chords as Maxime Delporte supported him on double bass, which was followed by Frederic Petitprez on drums. Frederic is to be appreciated for the quick variations in tempo, which made the audience skip a heartbeat. The band mainly focussed on their album ‘BBANG’, which was released in 2013, and other original compositions.

Remi Panossian dominated the performance, which, considering that he has been performing since the age of seven, is natural for his experience and the numerous people he has collaborated with. The band’s coordination was flawless. And to have the audience glued to their seats with just music is something very challenging, which was accomplished by the band. As the event concluded, the audience broke into applause.
