Hyderabad: More than 300-and-odd small producers are up in arms against office-bearers of Telugu Film Producers Council over putting off the crucial general body meeting time and again for the last few months. The general body meeting of the Council was to have been held in August this year to discuss the alleged financial irregularities during the extended tenure of the present body. “We will not give up our fight until general body is held since there is a skeleton in the closet. The present body indulged in irregularities, including squandering Rs 50 lakh on a property in Tirupati.

The property was purchased though it had no valid documents. We don’t rule out the hand of bigwigs in those misdeeds,” alleged producer C N Rao, who lodged a complaint with Registrar of Societies to direct the Council to hold general body meeting and subsequently elections. “We have approached registrar twice and awaiting an early response to expose the transgression of the office-bearers and also want early elections to elect a new body” he added.

Another producer Mohan Goud alleged that even monthly executive committee meetings comprising 23 members to discuss various problems being faced by producers were given a go by for the last few months. “It seems like Producers Council has become almost dysfunctional,” he alleged and said that more than Rs 5 crore had been withdrawn from banks and spent lavishly.

They have to lot to answer on that count. “These funds are meant for welfare of 800-and-odd producers but a few individuals have misused it and they are answerable for every rupee spent” added Goud When contacted Prasanna Kumar, general secretary, Telugu Film Producers Council, admitted that they had received complaints from members. “We have received complaints from producers about financial irregularities, we will surely look into it,” he said sharply.
