Anurag Kashyap’s GANGS OF WASSEYPUR is well remembered for its quirky characters. And one of them was ‘Fazloo’ essayed by Sanjay Singh. While the NSD actor Sanjay played a grey character in GoW, he will now be witnessed in a completely contrasting role. The deceiving ‘Fazloo’ of GANGS OF WASSEYPUR will now be seen as an innocent, kind-hearted ‘Mad Gentleman’ in the upcoming film MURARI, revealed the soft spoken Sanjay Singh.
Prod him about playing two contrasting characters and Sanjay says, “I have been doing theatres for many years. And this is a big challenge about how you manage to play the different characters in the best possible way. You will always get different roles and to do justice with each and every character is what is required. Whether the said character is close to your personality or not, one has to do justice with it otherwise it won’t look convincing. And playing Fazloo in WASSEYPUR was an amazing experience. The best part about working with Anurag sir (Kashayp) is that he gives all his actors the liberty to perform.”
While he did a small role in GoW, MURARI - The Mad Gentleman is his first lead role. Sanjay was little apprehensive doing MURARI. “When MURARI was offered to me, I was little apprehensive because the kind of role I did in WASSEYPUR was different. While Anurag’s WASSEYPUR was a dark film, MURARI is a light-hearted film; the character here was cheerful, carefree and very loving. Initially, I thought whether I will be able to do it or not but then I took it as challenge. And since the character in MURARI was not so close to my personality, I all the more accepted it. I decided to do it in a best way and giving life to the character,” says the actor.
Besides GoW, Sanjay also did guest roles in Ranbir Kapoor starrer ROCKSTAR and MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA. He is also a part of ‘Kingdom of Dreams’ musical shows ‘Jhumroo’ and ‘Zangura’. Well, we are sure Sanjay will entertain us in MURARI too when it releases on March 11, 2016.
