Veteran actor Suresh, who wowed the audiences in 90s with films like ‘Surigaadu’, ‘Allari Pilla’, ‘Todi Kodallu’, ‘Pattukondi Chooddam’ among others, is playing a key role in NTR-starrer ‘Janatha Garage’. “I’m playing Samantha’s father in the film. That’s all I can say at this juncture. I’ve shot for 11 days,” he says, refusing to disclose any more details.

With an ensemble cast like Mohanlal, Sai Kumar, Rahman and Brahmaji, doesn’t he feel he will be lost once the actioner opens? Begging to differ, he points out, “Every supporting role, including mine, will bring something to the table, that’s for sure. Director Koratala Siva doesn’t waste his actors; he ensures that something’s there for everyone. Even in a star-centric film like ‘Srimanthudu’, supporting artistes had something to offer.”

The film also marks Suresh teaming up with celebrated Malayalam actor Mohanlal for the first time. “I know Mohanlal well, having remade four of his Malayalam films in Telugu and Tamil. When I was starring in them I made it to a point to not watch the originals because it’s very easy to get influenced by his performance.

He is that good an artiste,” he proudly recalls, further revealing that he worked with Mammootty twice and hopes to work with Lal in a Malayalam film in the future. “He is like one among us. Given what he has achieved in Malayalam cinema, he is easy-going, bindass and down-to-earth.”

Ask him what subject kept them busy during breaks and he is quick to add, “He is a nature lover like me. We spoke about unexplored locations in Vietnam, Indonesia and other places. He was talking about how beautiful China is. We also realised that we are slowly moving away from the city to a farm house or close to nature.”

Suresh also points out there was a common factor linking Lal, Sai Kumar, Rahman and him on the sets. “It was Sitara, who plays my wife in the film. She starred alongside four of us back in the late 80s and 90s as our heroine (in our respective films). It was something we found very strange and couldn’t but help laugh at it,” guffaws Suresh, signing off.
