Of late, the police on Friday arrested them i.e. almost after 14 days after a student of the same institute was allegedly raped.

According to the police, on January 27, a group of six youths travelling in a car and a motorcycle minted the two girls in their car near Siswan road after allegedly opening fire. The probing cop, Jarnail Singh said both the students were kept in illegal incarceration for over 18 hours and were taken to a building near Mirzapur dam on the Baddi road. Three of the accused allegedly repeatedly raped them. Later, the two victims were abandoned near their village in Mohali district on the following day and threatened with dire consequences if they disclosed about the incident to anyone, added police.

Sources said the students narrated their ordeal when the police begun investigations into the rape of the nursing student at a private house in Sector 37 of Chandigarh that took place on January 25 (two days before ibid incident), a case that was yet to be solved.

The police immediately swung into action and arrested Palwinder Singh (Golu), Talwinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh (Ganju). On Friday, the trio was remanded in police custody for two days. The police also seized the Maruti Alto car in which the two girl students were abducted.
