Visakhapatnam: Acting on a tip-off, police arrested two passengers – Mir Abbas Mahdi and Abbas Razi, who arrived here by Air India Flight AI 952 from Dubai via Hyderabad on Saturday – and seized two kg of gold bars worth over Rs 61 lakh from their possession.
It was revealed that Abbas Razi, who boarded the flight in Hyderabad, concealed a packet wrapped in blue plastic tape in his trouser near the belly. When the officials opened the packet, they found three gold bars covered with pieces of carbon paper. Officials of Customs, Air Intelligence Unit, Visakhapatnam International Airport, seized the gold. Mir Abbas Mahdi, who was coming from Dubai to Visakhapatnam, confessed that he handed over the gold to Abbas Razi on board the flight in Hyderabad when the latter boarded the plane as a domestic passenger. Abbas Razi admitted that he received the gold on board the flight in Hyderabad.
