Karimnagar: A huge racket in the sale of PDS rice meant for supply to the poor through ration shops came to light on Tuesday following the arrest of the offenders here by the Vigilance department officials. The officials were surprised by the fraud in the native district of the Telangana Civil Supplies minister.
The officials raided Ramalingeswara Rice Mill at Kotirampur, which has not even name board. They were shocked to find huge stocks of PDS rice which was being polished when the raid took place in the morning. The officials also seized thousands of litres of kerosene.
The officials found that the rice which the government supplied at Rs 1 a kg was being polished and sold in the open market for Rs 10.
