New Delhi: The Indian Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) against a serving Brigadier for allegedly raping a New York-based doctor-turned-entrepreneur last year.
Brigadier Manoj Tiwari, now serving at the Army War College, is accused of raping a woman doctor when he was posted as the Military Attache to India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
Then a Colonel, the officer is accused of pursuing, lying about his marital status and then drugging her before raping her in his office. Colonel Tiwari returned home subsequently and was promoted as Brigadier in the Army before the complaint reached the Indian Army.
Sexual assault in another Bangalore School
Barely a month after protests raged across Bangalore following the alleged rape of a six-year-old in school, two men were arrested in yet another school for alleged sexual assault on a child. The men, a temporary teacher and the principal of the private school in south Bangalore, are in custody.
The child's family claims other children were molested as well.
Youth gets 7 yrs jail
A 22-year-old youth, who had eloped with a minor girl and married her with her consent, was sentenced to seven years in jail for raping her by a Delhi court after he could not prove that physical relations between them were consensual.
Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain handed down the minimum sentence, under section 376 (rape) of IPC, to Advesh while noting that the girl had eloped with him and married him voluntarily but he failed to prove that she had given her consent to establish physical relation with him.
"I am of the considered opinion that prosecution has succeeded in bringing home the guilt of the accused beyond the shadow of all reasonable doubts for the offence punishable under Section 376 IPC," the judge said while also imposing a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.
School principal arrested
Principal of a primary school was arrested for allegedly attempting to molest a subordinate in Maharajganj area, UP, police said.
Iqbal Ahmad, principal of the school, called the woman, posted as education motivator, in his room and tried to molest her, Station House Officer Jagdish Upadhyaya said.
He said that when the woman raised alarm, locals reached the spot and thrashed the principal.
