Nalgonda: Syed Salahuddin (45), former president of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and an accused in several bomb blast incidents in the country, was killed when his car rammed into a lorry near Peddakaparti under Chityal mandal of Nalgonda district on Friday night. Two more persons in car sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Salahuddin, who died on the way to a private hospital in Hyderabad, was staying in the Bibinagar area of the district. He was on bail. His body was shifted to Osmania Hospital in the morning.

The mishap occurred when he was returning to Hyderabad after attending the Ulema function of Mohd Azhar, a SIMI activist, in the town. He went to the town as the police were busy with the visit of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to Yadagirigutta.

The district police were taken aback after Salauddin was identified by the IB officials, based on the car’s registration number.

The Chityal police seized the car. The Nalgonda SP and Intelligence officials held an emergency meeting here on Saturday to assess the situation and to identify persons with whom Salauddin interacted during his visit.
