Victim sedated and sexually assaulted

A 23-year-old student was allegedly raped by her male friends in English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) campus on Friday.

The victim, a second year MA (Journalism) student, who approached the Osmania University Police, complained that her friends sedated and raped her in the room at Basheer Boys Hostel in the campus.

Though the incident took place on the night of October 31, it came to light on Sunday morning when the Osmania University Police, who received the complaint on Sunday, took four people including an ex-student of the university into custody.

The girl student alleged that the accused, whom she knew, spiked her drink with sedatives and then raped her in the boys hostel. She named two people in her complaint -- Nitin Solasamudram (21), an MCJ first year student from Hindupur and his friend Raj Simha (24), an ex-student of the university and a native of West Godavari.

Kachiguda ACP S Sudhakar said that the police are investigating the matter. “We got the complaint on Sunday morning and the process of investigation has been started. A few people have been questioned as part of the inquiry. Based on the victim’s complaint, Nitin and Raj were arrested under Sections 376 (G) (Gang rape) and 341 (Wrongful Restraint) of the IPC,” OU inspector V Ashok Reddy said, adding that they had sent the victim for a medical examination.

“The duo would be produced before the court on Monday,” Reddy added.

However, a section of students have another version to the incident. They said that a group of students were having a party in the hostel on Friday when the accused pounced on the victim and outraged her modesty while she was inebriated.

“The victim was shocked and was not in a mental condition to approach the police. But after her friends and members of Dalit Students Union (DSU) persuaded her, she decided to lodge a complaint,” informed a student from the University.

It has been learnt that the accused has political connections too, which might influence the proceedings of the investigation.
