Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team (SOT) police on Monday claimed to have busted a drug racket with the arrest of five persons. Police seized around 70 kg of raw material along with “methamphetamine,” valued at Rs 7 crore in the international market.


The drug traffickers were identified as I Ramesh, 34, Santosh Kumar, 27, B Anil, 33 and Roshan, 33, all native of Nalgonda district and K Ramchander, 24, a resident of Shamshabad. Acting on a tip-off, the SOT sleuths on Monday in coordination with Keesara police apprehended Santosh while the drug was being transported to Chennai.


On the confession of the arrested persons, the police raided a factory at Rampally village under Keesara police station limits and arrested the kingpin, Ramesh and his associates- Anil, Roshan and Ramchander. “Ramesh, a degree dropout, is into the business of supplying chemicals to dealers for 15 years.


He gained knowledge about the demand for some banned drugs which have high monetary value in the international market. A couple of years ago he was able to garner the support of few persons who were into the racket. He set up his own factory at Rampally village and started preparing the the banned drug, methamphetamine by procuring raw material from different sources,” Additional DCP(SOT) Cyberabad E Ramachandra Reddy said, adding that as much as 60 kg of raw material “tartaric acid” and 800 grams of “wet methamphetamine” along with drug-making machine were seized from the accused.


Reddy said methamphetamine is a banned drug under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and can cause severe mental disorder and could even lead to instant death.
