Kidnapped baby rescued; 4 held

Hyderabad: A nine-month-old girl kidnapped allegedly by a woman from Gandhi Hospital on the intervening night of July 31 and August 1 was rescued on Tuesday by Chilkalguda police. The child was rescued and reunited with her parents on Wednesday. Four persons have been arrested in this connection identified as Divya Jyothi (30) of Kurnool district of AP, Ravi, Kalyan and Sanjeevaiah.

“The baby’s parents, B Ramesh and Renuka, who hail from Gollapally village of Medak district, came to Gandhi Hospital on July 31. Renuka, who has been suffering from thyroid disease, had come along with her husband and baby Kavya to Gandhi Hospital. Since the doctors were unavailable, Renuka was asked to come back on August 1.

Meanwhile, Ramesh, who found it difficult to travel all the way back to Medak, stayed back in the hospital at the visitors’ shed with his family. While the family members were sleeping, a woman came and started to converse with Renuka and during the course of conversation she developed friendship. When Renuka fell asleep, the woman took the baby from her mother and disappeared," ACP (Gopalapuram) K Shiva Kumar said.

After Renuka filed a complaint with the police, a special team was formed to track the kidnappers. By monitoring Divya’s mobile phone call records, the team tracked her to Kurnool. She confessed to the crime and later was arrested. Based on the information provided by her, the police arrested Ravi, Kalyan and Sanjeevaiah. The arrested are remanded in judicial custody.
