Nalgonda: The kidney sale racket in which 10 youth allegedly sold their kidneys has created a big sensation in the district. According to sources, police took a victim turned agent into custody on Saturday and interrogated him. But, the police officials have not yet confirmed it. The illegal sale of kidneys came to light when the family members of a victim attacked the agent in Nalgonda town a few days back.
According to the reports, Suresh, a resident of Krishnaveni Nagar at Duppalapally road in the town, found an online advertisement for kidney donation when he was surfing the internet. When the requirements of a kidney donor like blood group and age matched with his, he clicked on it and contacted the advertiser.
On their advice, he went to Maharashtra and met some persons. They conducted medical tests on him and removed his kidney by performing a surgery six months ago. They also paid Rs 5 lakh to him for offering his kidney. Suresh was the younger son of the couple Kamalamma and Ramachandraiah.
Returning from Maharastra, Suresh bought a car and an expensive cell phone and started leading a lavish lifestyle. As he was not doing any job and leading a lavish life, his friend Azeem inquired him about the income. Azeem, who was a suspended employee of Zilla Parishad, was also facing financial problems.
When Suresh revealed about his kidney sale, Azeem also took interest to sell his kidney for money. Then, Suresh contacted the persons linked with the kidney racket and gave the information to them. They initially deposited Rs 25,000 in Suresh’s bank account as a commission and asked him to bring Azeem to Maharashtra. Suresh took Azeem to Maharashtra where his kidney was removed by performing surgery. Azeem was also paid Rs 5 lakh.
After returning to Nalgonda, Azeem also started leading a luxurious life but his relatives became suspicious and questioned him about the money. When Azeem revealed the sale of kidney with the help of Suresh, his relatives attacked Suresh five days ago. As the information reached the police, they reportedly took Suresh into the custody and started interrogating him to extract further details on the racket.
Upon interrogation, Suresh confessed to the police that he took 18 youth to Maharashtra for kidney sale and eight were found ineligible after medical examination. He got Rs 50,000 commission for each candidate. The police are also verifying the bank transactions of Suresh.
Expressing her ignorance about the incident, Suresh’s mother Kamalamma said that his son went out from home on January 1 and did not return till Tuesday. He was pursuing hotel management course in Hyderabad, she claimed.
A neighbour of Suresh, on the condition of anonymity, said that Suresh used to lead a luxurious life without doing any job. He told his friends that he was involved in online business and was paid Rs 100 to Rs 5,000 on each order of goods booked.
