​Hyderabad: Cyberabad police on Monday arrested a 24-year-old MTech student in the JNTU on charges of rash and negligent driving in an inebriated state resulting in the death of a senior citizen.

Police said the accused G Prashanth Kumar, a resident of Bapubagh Colony in Secunderabad, was produced before the court and remained in judicial custody.

According to police, Prashant Kumar went on partying along with his two girlfriends on the night of December 9.
The trio consumed alcohol in two separate pubs, they went to one of the girl’s room on the ISB Road and stayed there till 5 am on December 10.

In the early hours, Prashanth kumar, who was still in an inebriated state, set out to go home though his girlfriends advised not to drive the car.

However, the accused did not pay heed to their advise and left in his car, police said. On the way, he knocked down a 72-year-old ex-service man, V Devadanam of Darga at Cyberabad near a temple at Khajaguda when the senior citizen was crossing the road around 7 am.

Prashanth Kumar was so insensitive that he did not even take the victim to a hospital. Neither did he inform the police. Instead, he fled the place, police said.

Some passerby informed the police and a police patrol was rushed to the place. However, the victim lost his life as he did not get medical aid in time.

A case was registered and during investigation, the accused and the accident vehicle was identified. Consequently, he was arrested and sent to prison under various provisions of the IPC and Motor Vehicles Act, police said.
