Sleuths unearth assets worth over Rs 10 crore amassed by the tainted SRO

Hyderabad: Continuing its tirade against corrupt sub-registrars, involved in the Miyapur land scam, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday carried out simultaneous searches at nine places of the suspended sub-registrar of Balanagar Sub-Registrar office (SRO) Mohammed Yousuf.

The search began in the morning and by evening ACB sleuths unearthed assets worth Rs 2.34 crore at book value. The searches were carried out at seven places in Hyderabad and two places in Nalgonda including the relatives and benamis of the tainted sub-registrar.

The ACB officials found two houses in Hyderabad, one residential flat, two house sites in Serilingampally, five acres of agricultural land in Medak district, one car and two motor cycles. Three bank accounts were found in the searches so far, officials added.

The present market value of the assets amassed by the tainted official could be worth over Rs 10 crore, ACB sources said. The ACB officials are further probing to find out the investments made by Yousuf with the help of his benamis and relatives.

It may be recalled here that Yousuf was arrested along with two private persons last month for registering hundreds of acres of government lands in Hafeezpet in the name of different people in return for huge bribes.

He was also accused of undervaluing the stamp fee causing huge revenue loss to the State exchequer. Cyberabad police arrested him following a complaint lodged by the higher-ups of the Stamps and Registration Department soon after Miyapur land scam surfaced.

According to Cyberabad police, Yousuf’s illegal acts resulted in a revenue loss of over Rs 680 crore for the government exchequer.
