VGSoM IIT Kharagpur Team Bags 1st Place in B-School Festival Purvodaya. Team Pi-Ninjas from Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) IIT Kharagpur wins Triveni case challenge at IIT Kharagpur Business Festival Purvodaya.

Kharagpur: Team Pi-Ninjas from Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) IIT Kharagpur wins Triveni case challenge at IIT Kharagpur Business Festival Purvodaya. Team BumbleBees from Masters Program in Human Resource Management (MHRM), also IIT Kharagpur was the first runner up. Team Kshatriyas from NITIE Mumbai was second runner up. The winners were awarded with cash prizes & gift vouchers. They are also offered the chance to directly appear for Triveni's Internship placement interviews.

The contest tests the innovative skills of students through a business review of a real world-like situation of a fictitious saree manufacturing organization – SSM, having them also propose a course of action. The contest started with applications wherein 65 teams applied & took a quiz real-time on 27th Jan 2015. About 35 shortlisted teams from the quiz were shared the case study. 5 finalist teams from IIT Kharagpur, SIBM Pune & NITIE Mumbai were selected for final submissions on 7th Feb 2015 at IIT Kharagpur. The final presentations were co-judged by Prof Ashutosh Sarkar of IIT Kharagpur & Arvind Saraf, Director, Triveni.

Arvind Saraf, Director, Triveni added “This contest has given an opportunity to showcase interests and skills in developing textile sector. We already have 2 Student Ambassadors at IIT Kharagpur. This association takes our IIT Kharagpur engagement to next level, laying the platform for more contests on Operations, Marketing & Advertising.”

Professor Parama Barai, Faculty-in-charge, Corporate & Media Interaction Cell, VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur, said "The case provided the participants with a unique insight about a serious inventory problem faced by a typical SME firm, challenging them to apply classroom concepts within the constraints of practicability and feasibility”

Prof Ashutosh Sarkar, Assistant Professor, VGSOM IIT Kharagpur added, "The case gave them an exposure of India-specific issues which, in general, the Indian management graduates do not get due to the heavy borrowing of western business cases in their MBA curriculum."

Subham Das student from VGSoM, winning team said “Triveni case challenge was a great learning experience for us. It covered so many aspects of Finance and Operation. We had to do a lot of secondary market research and come up with innovative strategies which would ultimately reduce the excess inventory of the company. Most importantly the event was very nicely managed by the student coordinators of VGSOM, IIT KHARAGPUR. We look forward to be a part of more events of this kind in future”
