Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay wishes to clarify that the Institute has ordered 3500 Uttarias (stoles) for its upcoming convocation ceremony on August 13, 2016 and not entire robes, as reported by many media houses.

Also, we wish to clarify that the Director of IIT Bombay Prof. Devang Khakhar did not give any quote on this issue and yet his name has appeared in the media reports.

The Institute has not received any mandate from the government or any authority to purchase the uttarias. These uttarias have been used in convocations for the past many years.

In comparison with other fabrics presented by the vendors, we found the quality of the khadi stoles presented by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to be the best and hence chose those.

We request you to publish a clarification in this regard to clear any misunderstanding.
