Chennai: Six wild elephants which were captured recently with the help of 'kumkis' (trained pachyderms) have been named as per the choice of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the state government said today.

The elephants were recently captured from Vellore district after they entered into human settlements and later relocated to Anaimalai and Muthumalai tiger reserves, a government release here said today.

While the male elephants were named as Narasimha, Bharathi and Krishna, the female ones were christened as Devi, Kaaveri and Narmadha by Jayalalithaa, the release said.

Further, Jayalalithaa launched a series of initiatives totalling around Rs. 66 crore including in the education sector.

She inaugurated schools and libraries constructed in different parts of the state at Rs. 35.30 crore through video-conferencing from here, the release said.

The Chief Minister also laid foundation stone for various projects worth Rs. 5.50 crore including Teachers' Quarters at Tiruchirappalli.

Similarly, she launched Rs. 25.90 crore worth buildings including schools, hostels and community centres constructed for Adi Dravida community people.
