Large number of political leaders, educationists, businessmen, farmers, students and doctors took part in the programme held at Sri Anam Kalakendram in Rajahmundry on Thursday.

Assistant Director of the Information and Public Relations Department M Francis and renowned advocate Muppalla Subba Rao presided over the programme. All the speakers highlighted the civic problems faced by the people which should be addressed by the political parties. Most of the participants raised local issues like pollution, hygiene, drinking water and corruption. Francis stressed the need for making use of the vast natural resources of East Godavari district.

Prominent educationist and BJP leader Addepalli Sridhar in his address, stressed the need for eradication of pollution and implementation of a new master plan for better Rajahmundry. Chairman of Hithakarini Samajam Buddiga Srinivas said that an increase in number of welfare schemes indicated that the living standards of people were going down.

President of Rajahmundry Chamber of Commerce Ashok Kumar Jain made it clear that the people were more powerful in a democracy and they should elect the best persons as their representatives instead of cribbing about the attitude of the political parties.

Co-Convener of Seemandhra Advocates JAC Muppalla Subba Rao lamented that the people’s representatives were not responding to the woes of the public.

State Secretary of Bharathiya Kisan Sangh Kumara Swamy demanded the implementation of MS Swaminathan Commission recommendations.
