Telangana Congress List by Month-EndNew Delhi: The Congress is planning to field fresh and young candidates in the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh. The Congress, as a strategy, has decided to sidestep seniors and opt for youth in the ensuing simultaneous Assembly and Parliament elections. In Telangana, however, it will field only those with winning chances.

The AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, has indicated that the Andhra Pradesh Screening Committee will meet in the next two days to shortlist the candidates for Telangana. The Congress Election Committee (CEC) will finalize the candidates for the 119 Assembly and 17 Parliament candidates in Telangana. The final list is expected by March 28 or March 30, he said.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that he would be in Delhi on Saturday and would meet the leaders of the party high command. He would be coming with the list of probable candidates from Telangana region.

Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, who has emerged as the new pointsman for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, is expected to visit the State next week. Jairam is sensing a new enthusiasm among the Seemandhra youth. He has already toured extensively in Telangana, Coastal Andhra and has also visited Rayalaseema. He hopes to cover all the districts in all the three regions, ahead of the elections.

Although the simultaneous Assembly and Parliament elections are taking place in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, as the actual bifurcation will take place only on June 2, the Congress is adopting two different strategies, one for the Telangana region and a different one for the Seemandhra region.

The idea of going in for fresh faces is to build up a new leadership for the party in the Seemandhra. If the youth contest and even lose this elections, these candidates will gain experience and mature by the time of the next elections due in 2019.
