Hyderabad: TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has been elected as the TRS Legislature Party leader by the party MLAs here on Saturday, paving way for him to become the first Chief Minister of the new State of Telangana that would come into existence on June 2.
All the 63 MLAs turned up for the meeting. Station Ghanpur MLA T Rajaiah proposed KCR’s name as the legislature party leader. It was seconded by senior leaders Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Etela Rajender, Kadiam Srihari, Koppula Eshwar, Srinivas Goud and Kova Lakshmi among others. All the MLAs unanimously supported the proposal. Later, addressing the newly elected MLAs for over an hour, Rao urged them to be honest and simple and work with dedication for the welfare of people. He advised them not to accept garlands and hold big rallies during their programmes. The 11 elected MPs authorised Rao to choose the TRS Parliament Party leader besides party floor leaders in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Sources say K Keshav Rao will be the Parliamentary Party leader and B Vinod or Kadiam Srihari may be nominated as the floor leader in Lok Sabha.
