KCR to make Hyderabad clean and green
KCR To Make Hyderabad Clean And Green. Apart from boosting the image of brand Hyderabad, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is keen on making the city clean and green.
- Wants more trees to be planted across state
- 10-15 dump yards to be located around the city
- Warns against Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar turning into another Hussain Sagar
Apart from boosting the image of brand Hyderabad, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is keen on making the city clean and green. With a vision to give a makeover to the state capital, KCR held a review meeting with senior officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and other departments on Thursday.
To quickly dispose garbage around the city, KCR directed the GHMC to identify ten to fifteen locations on the outskirts (at least 1,000 acres each), which would be used as dump yards.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that a review meeting was conducted recently by the Chief Secretary with the Collectors of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Medak and Mahabubnagar to identify new dump yards.
Currently, the Greater Hyderabad region generates around 4,000 metric tonnes of solid waste everyday and it is being dumped at the Jawaharnagar dump yard at Shamirpet. The yard is spread over 339 acres and falls under the Ranga Reddy district.
KCR’s concept of decentralising dumping yards will help in reducing the transportation costs for the GHMC. Presently, the entire waste is transported by hundreds of heavy vehicles every day.
Impetus to greenery and lakes
The CM also directed officials to improve greenery across the state by undertaking a massive tree plantation drive and safeguarding existing flora. He also ordered authorities to take steps to safeguard several lakes and tanks under the Greater Hyderabad limits.
KCR informed that he has been receiving several complaints about heavy pollution at Osman Sagar (Gandipet Lake) and Himayat Sagar, which are the two major sources of drinking water. Citing the example of large scale pollution at Tank Bund, the CM asked authorities to take action immediately before the reservoirs turn into another Hussain Sagar. He suggested for repairing and cleansing works to be taken up immediately to ensure proper and safe supply of drinking water.
